Fern Hill Gifts and Quilts opened her doors in 1987 in one little room in beautiful South Amana, Iowa. Today they proudly occupy the original South Amana General Store building. A building rich in history in and of itself, providing the perfect backdrop for our rich offering of antiques, including impressive architectural pieces that immediately invite you to experience the grandeur of a much different era. Architectural antiques changed the face of Fern Hill forever. These amazing pieces of buildings, churches’ and homes adorn all three floors at Fern Hill, waiting to be discovered, recycled and repurposed. The decorating possibilities are endless with these shards of our past.
Over 5,000 bolts of quilting fabric
Fern Hill has an unbelievable fabric loft full of over 5,000 bolts of high-quality quilting fabric. If you are going to put your heart and soul into creating your quilts, you want them to last a lifetime and even longer, to pass on to your children and grandchildren. They have been blessed with the fabrics by Stephanie Brandenburg, owner of Frond Design Studios and daughter of Patti Walsh-Bailey, the owner of Fern Hill Gifts and Quilts. Stephanie’s fabrics along with the fabrics of several designers that work with Frond are amazing. The colors and designs mesmerize you and lead you into creativity. Stephanie’s large flowers and bright colors are an inspiration in themselves. Collections of flannels, batiks, Cuddle, Embrace and Tim Holtz add balance to our other fabrics.

As in our homes, we mix old with new and bring in unique offerings to achieve a perfect blend of creativity for our busy lifestyles, changing as often as our individual styles and colors do in our own homes and gardens. Garden has always been a part of their lives, so it has been a natural extension in their store. In the warmer months, stroll through their gardens and relax under the pergola with a glass of iced tea. Explore the vignettes where they have combined vintage with new, and see the wonderful combinations that you can display in your garden.
